Eligibility & Enrollment

If you’re a full-time employee at FirstCall, you’re eligible.

Full-time employees are those who work 30 or more hours per week.

Additionally, the following family members are eligible for medical, dental and vision coverage:

  • Legally married spouse or registered domestic partner
  • Natural or adopted children up to age 26, regardless of student and marital status
  • Children under your legal guardianship
  • Stepchildren or children of a registered domestic partner
  • Children under a qualified medical child support order
  • Disabled children over age 26
  • Children placed in your physical custody for adoption

When to Enroll

You must enroll within 31 days of being hired or becoming newly eligible. Newly hired or newly eligible employees’ coverage becomes effective on the first day of the month following date of hire or attainment of eligibility.

If you miss the deadline, benefits will automatically be waived. Changes cannot be made outside of a Qualifying Life Event. Learn more about QLE in the video below.

Making Changes

During the plan year, you may experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE). Apart from Open Enrollment, employees may be able to make changes to benefits elections if the QLE is consistent with the change requested.

If you experience a QLE, contact our Benefits Team at benefits@firstcallmechanical.com within 31 days of the event. Qualifying events include (but are not limited to):

  • Marriage
  • Divorce or legal separation
  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Death
  • Termination of employment for you or your spouse, resulting in loss of coverage
  • Reduction of hours worked by you or your spouse, resulting in loss of coverage

You’ll need to provide proof of the event, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, birth certificate or loss-of-coverage letter.

If you do not make changes to your elections within the 31-day period, you will not be able to enroll until the next open enrollment period.

Employment Status Change

A status change from part-time to full-time is not a qualifying event, but it is a change in eligibility that will allow an employee to enroll in insurance.

  • Newly eligible employees will have 31 days to enroll in insurance benefits, which will begin on the first day of the month after the employee has completed 60 days of full-time employment.
  • Reminder, this means working 30+ hours per week for 60 days.

A status change from full-time to part-time will cause employees to become ineligible for insurance benefits.

  • The insurance benefits will end on the last day of the month before the status change becomes effective.
  • A termination will also cause an employee to lose their benefit at the end of the month the employment ended.
  • Both of these situations will trigger eligibility for continuing coverage under COBRA.
